“Muscle Memory” sounds very seasoned, but it’s your debut single. How long did you work on this specific track for?
It’s actually a little bit weird to think about how long we’ve had Muscle Memory for. It was written before Like Satellites was even a band initially, and then it was the first song that Like Satellites looked at when it was initially formed. Our lineup was totally different than it is now, and I’m so grateful for the guys who worked on Muscle Memory. Overall there was probably about a year’s worth of work put into getting this song right from when it was first conceptualized before Like Satellites was formed to when we finished recording with Sam Guaiana in studio. Oh, and thank you! That’s really nice of you to say. Why was this song chosen as your debut single over any other track? Muscle Memory is very much the start of this band’s story. It wasn’t just a choice was made because of what it sounded like, it was something that we wanted to get out into the world first so people would have a sense of what we came out of. Thankfully it’s also a really fun song to sing along to or play live, so that worked out. There are a couple of tracks that go with it that are in our set list right now and it really tells the story of where we came from, but only if you know what you’re listening to. What was the band’s overall goal in releasing this single? Were there any milestones you hoped to hit with the release? We wanted to just get out there, you know? We wanted to get people listening and start playing shows so that when we move on to other things with the band there are people there to listen. One of the biggest goals was just creating a base that would come out to shows and listen to our music, and we’ve managed to do that which is incredibly cool. Now that it’s out, are there any plans to film a music video for “Muscle Memory”? Maybe! We’ll see what the future holds for it. Right now we’re more focused on new music than anything else, but there’s been some interest in a video so we’ll see. Do you plan to release a follow up single, or is there an EP in the works? The plan right now is to hopefully record an EP this winter. We aren’t totally sure how many tracks yet, but we’re hoping to have some new stuff out to everyone by early summer. The songs we’ve worked on are being road tested right now, we just finished a little run of shows opening for Carried Away, The Wildhood, and then Calling All Captains so we’ve definitely got some stuff we’re working on to make our sound as cool as it can be when we do get in to record again. What’s the overall goal for Like Satellites as a band? What do you want to accomplish? At the end of the day we want to make music that people are listening to. We’d really like to eventually be able to just do the stuff that we love instead of working two jobs. It’s really hard being a start-up musician! I feel like people don’t talk about that enough. Wherever the music takes us we just want to be able to make it full time and meet the people who are coming out and supporting us.
