About their plans for the remainder of 2017, the band states: “Since we are relatively new to the scene, we are going to do our best to hop on as direct support to any shows/tours that we can. After our EP release, we plan on doing a three-to-five day promotional tour across the Tri-State area with New York bands that we’ve grown a relationship with. We can’t wait to be those boys on our way to every venue blasting Post Malone and watching Futurama.” Hailing from Long Island, New York, the five members of Off Guard bring an electric wave of energy that the alternative/pop punk scene desperately needs. The members, all coming from different musical backgrounds are making their mark on the music scene with elevated confidence. GLASS HOUSE POINT DROP NEW EP “MIDNIGHT APPETITE” Listen to “Midnight Appetite” HERE TAMPA, FL | OCTOBER 27TH 2017 - Central Florida indie rock band Glass House Point have officially dropped their brand new EP, “Midnight Appetite.” The record embodies a new, bolder sound for the band, who made the decision to explore a rather dramatic, symphonic concept. The band’s sound is centered around a 4-piece lineup backed by crisp harmonies, synths, and string ensembles. Overall the sound is sophisticated, yet untamed — a quite beautiful contradiction. “Midnight Appetite” follows the release of two late summer singles - the Spotify hit “Creatures,” which recently hit 20,000 streams, and it’s powerful follow up, “Polaris,” both of which are featured on “Midnight Appetite”. They will embark a promotional tour in early November, aptly titled “The Midnight Appetite Tour” to promote the record (see dates below). .About their new music, the band states: “Our new music is, collectively, more thematic and focused than anything we’ve ever done. It’s us introducing what we have become and debuting ourselves on a bigger stage.” Glass House Point is an indie-rock band hailing from the tropics of Central Florida: a place riddled with abundant sunshine and torrential rainfall. The band formed during the particularly stormy Summer of 2013 and has since cultivated a sound that completely defies the expectations of East Coast music culture. Ambient swell and soothings lulls put Glass House Point’s music into a category of its own: a category that has yet to be explored by today’s indie artists. The band’s past ventures include extensive US tours and the release of their debut record Love Lives in Dark Places (2016). Most recently, Glass House Point has recorded their sophomore EP with Grammy-nominated engineer & producer, Aaron Gandia. Glass House Point recently embarked on the “Think Fast; It’s Gone” Tour. “Midnight Appetite” is available NOW. It’s just your second single, but do you have future plans for more music? I constantly have artists wanting me to sing on their songs which is amazing because I can be a pit more choosy now. Im always being featured on new music, so I have a steady stream of content coming out the next few months. As for my own stuff, I’m currently working on two songs. What made you want to experiment with an EDM-oriented pop sound? I listen to all kinds of music but something about EDM just fits the “darkness” of lyrics so well. For example, my song Mountain Lion with MKJ. The lyrics sound like party/fun lyrics in passing but if you listen closely it’s about having a fun/partying front while youre actually struggling on the inside. Compare to Sia’s Chandelier, for example, it sounds happy but it isnt. The dance feel of EDM is just borderlining on happy but it’s also so heavy and dark and it just fits my style of writing so well. A friend told me my songs make her want to dance and cry at the same time. Besides your music - you also have an Instagram account called Bath Tub Eats. How did that come to be? So I came home from a jog one day and I was sweaty, tired, and hungry all at once, so I decided to eat a burrito in the bath tub. It fell apart (as burritos do) and I took a picture. I instantly felt people connect/relate to the project so I made it it’s own thing. How would you describe your personal brand? Thats something Ive thought a LOT about since starting over solo and I’m not sure if I am any closer in finding it. I want to be this cool, dynamic person and from afar I almost pull that look off. But deep down Im going through a lot of stuff right now and I have this conviction to air that out publicly, so Im not another face on social media pretending everything is awesome and pushing others deeper into their own depression. Im trying to find balance with that. What do you hope listeners take away from your music? I guess I want pop music to have meaning again. If someone is listening to my lyrics and it makes them go “hmmm,” then Ive accomplished my goal. Are you planning on playing any shows in the near future? What do you think a Julie Elody show would be like? Oh dear lord, Ive been trying to figure out how to play this music live for 8 months now. Im not a very good dancer so Id probably hide behind my keyboard and just let the music stand for itself. I do sound really good singing live though, I just cant dance!
Your single “Creatures” just hit 20,000 streams on Spotify. What was it like to reach that milestone? It’s pretty surreal; it’s like nothing we’ve experienced before. The song has actually rose to about 50,000 streams at this point. We are excited that it’s getting the attention it deserves. We feel that this song has a lot to offer listeners, and we hope that listeners find that we have much more to share in our upcoming EP. You also recently released a second single titled “Polaris.” How do the two singles compare? “Polaris” and “Creatures” have some pretty significant differences. That is ultimately why we chose to release these two songs as singles. “Polaris” is much darker -- lyrically and musically. It’s less nostalgic and introspective than “Creatures.” Polaris communicates a lot of different themes, which was our attempt to tie all of the songs on the new record together. “Creatures” is simpler in nature, and it reflects our “roots” as an indie/alt band. Will there be an upcoming EP to follow the singles? Yes, our sophmore EP, ‘Midnight Appetite,’ is set to release on October 27th. We will be doing a Southeast US tour in support of the record through November. You have been touring quite a bit recently. What is the touring experience like for the band? We’ve always considered live shows to be our bread and butter. So touring has been incredible for us. We’ve connected with so many more fans, and we’ve begun to consider the road our second home. What has been your favorite show so far of 2017? That’s a pretty tough question… I would have to say that our first headliners in Chicago and Manhattan were probably our favorites. How was Glass House Point’s sound created? We actually started off as a folk-rock band. So a lot of our song structure is rooted in that facet of American music. This is also why a lot of our first record, ‘ Love Lives in Dark Places,’ had an acoustic feel. As the band started gaining ground, we seperated with our violin player, Noah Feldman, in late 2016. This change ultimately pushed us in a new direction: one that focused primarily on heavily effect-driven electric guitars and synthscaping. What is the band’s ultimate goal for 2018? I think our ultimate goal is to spread our new EP as far and wide as it can go. We’ve put an incredible amount of time and attention into these new songs. We’d like ‘Midnight Appetite’ to do the talking for us; we’d like it convey that we are in this for the long haul. After spending many years in a rock band, Julie made the decision to switch genres and create thoughtful electronic pop. Her previous single, the debut track “Sirens,” was released with the hope of serving as an anthem to those who cope with feelings of both anxiety and depression. The follow up, “The Lighthouse,” blasts a ray of hope through its powerful vocal melody, heavy-hitting chords, a sweet, infectious trap-esque chorus beat. About the single, Julie states: “I think we all have moments where we feel unhinged and The Lighthouse is a song about being okay with being a little broken. My favorite line from the song is “there’s a lighthouse in this room I watched it go dark. But there are matches everywhere what distracting spark.” Even when everything feels like it’s falling apart, there’s always another way. It may not be the healthiest thing to do, but we do what we need to do to survive and sometimes that’s enough.” From the eclectic home she’s found in New Orleans, Julie Elody strives to bring back significance into this world of frivolous pop lyrics. With her notebook always on hand, she endeavors to find the beauty in bad situations and to write about the everyday struggles we face; she believes that sometimes it is the mundane that is the most profound. After several years as the lead vocalist and songwriter for the New Orleans funk-rock band, The Fake Carls, Julie is happy to have found her true sound with a more current electro-pop style. Julie Elody is armed with the memory of her late Grannie Elody, a wild and tenacious woman who chased adventure and brought the party wherever she went. Julie embodies this by chasing the difficult and not-at-all-guaranteed dream of becoming a pop star with something to say. She is a hard working, swing dancing, social justice warrior-ing, gin & tonic-loving and anxiety-ridden 25 year old who is always on the verge of a quarter life crisis; which history will tell makes the best songwriters. “The Lighthouse” is available NOW. "Valedictorian” is somewhat of a peek back in history for a brother of one of the members. Something Travis experienced firsthand in seeing, and though the situation dealt a ton of negativity into our atmosphere, He felt releasing that old sitch through the glory of song was the best thing we could do. Here's to you, Red Dress. What is a Survival Kit live show like? We get down. Jumping, headbanging, laughing, falling, screaming, and probably losing some cloths. We like to have a good time and we want you to feel free to do so as well at our shows. Now that “Valedictorian” is released, what are your plans through the remainder of 2017? We are playing several shows in the Atlanta area and traveling to New York & California to meet professionals in the music industry. We want to gain as much advice as we can before headfirst into the rest of our lives. You can also look forward to one more single if all goes as planned! How would you describe the band’s sound, without putting it in a genre? We never want you to hear the same thing twice from here on out. Imagine our sound as a box with 4 different extremes of rock in each corner. Now throw 4 marbles in there and shake the box around. That is kind of what we are going for. Where did the band name Survival Kit originate from? It took like 3 months of tossing names back and forth in a group chat. Survival Kit just kind of fits because if we aren’t living for music...what the hell are we living for? It gives us purpose and joy to write and perform. What has been the band’s favorite memory of 2017? Tour was sick. It was our first tour as Survival Kit and Chewy & Andy’s first tour ever. We can’t wait to continue playing shows and impacting people’s lives. Keep your eyes peeled for a possible 2018 tour. We expect to do great things! What made the band want to experiment with different elements and sounds for your new music? We love all different types of music. Every member has different roots and favorite bands. What better way to utilize that than to make every song different. You will always know it’s Survival Kit by our voices but the music will continue to change for the better. Always expect the unexpected! Drummer Nick Kolokathis has toured the entire United States with national acts in the past five years while building connections that sets Off Guard apart from the pack. About the single, the band states: “I think we can all relate to a song about needing to be on your own to find yourself. This song is a metaphor for all of the hard work that we’ve done and the things that we had to leave behind going into adulthood. We want people to be hit with the same feelings and thoughts that we were experiencing when we wrote the song.” Hailing from Long Island, New York, the five members of Off Guard bring an electric wave of energy that the alternative/pop punk scene desperately needs.
