Painted Young Releases New Single "The Madhouse" NEW JERSEY, USA | FEBRUARY 22ND, 2019 - New Jersey- based alternative rock project Painted Young have released a new single, titled "The Madhouse," out on all digital and streaming platforms NOW. Serving as a preview to their upcoming spring EP release, Painted Young transitioned to a solo project in 2018. Project frontman Chris Santos is filled with a vivacious energy - but that doesn't take away from his darker layers. "The Madhouse" digs into the usage of metaphors to express the frustration of being alone in your personal mental health issues. About the single, Santos states: At its surface, the song can be about being locked up in an insane asylum, with lyrics inspired by horror movies surrounding the topic. But the lyrics are also hyperboles and metaphors about how dealing with mental health problems on your own on a daily basis can sometimes be very frustrating and occasionally angering. As high-energy as this song is, it could also be described as a chaotic cry for help. Painted Young is an alternative rock/pop punk solo project from Aberdeen, New Jersey, fronted by Chris Santos. The band name first came to be in 2012, when Santos brought some friends together to perform for a charity fundraiser at their high school. Santos started writing original music in 2014 and the first song he presented to the band was called “Leave Some Space for Me.” Less than a year later in 2015, they released their first EP, titled “Looking Forward to Never Looking Back.” The band takes musical inspiration from alternative rock and pop punk bands. With catchy pop melodies, lively guitars, and momentum-filled drums, Painted Young puts as much energy into their live shows as possible, in order to leave some form of an impact on the audience. Painted Young have played numerous venues, primarily in New Jersey, including the Brighton Bar, the Stanhope House, the Stone Pony, and Starland Ballroom. The band have also played some shows in Brooklyn, at venues such as Arlene’s Grocery and the Knitting Factory. They’ve opened for national acts such as Richie Ramone, Johnnie Guilbert, and SayWeCanFly. By December of 2017 while releasing an EP and two singles, there have been numerous lineup changes in the band. It had gotten to the point where fans and friends couldn’t keep up with who was part of the group anymore. A decision was made and with the blessings of past members, Santos chose to continue Painted Young as a solo project. In 2018, Santos started recording what will be Painted Young’s second EP with the help of J.R. Sanson at Bullet Proof Recording Studio in Hazlet, NJ. Painted Young's new single "The Madhouse" is out NOW. NY Alternative Rock Band Brookline Release New EP "Fade" NY, USA | FEBRUARY 22ND, 2019 - NY-based alternative rock band Brookline have released their brand new EP "Fade," out on all digital platforms NOW. Their most recent single "Sinking," which was released on February 1st, sings an emotional narrative, touching upon themes of heartbreak and addiction. "Sinking" is perhaps the best representation of the EP as a whole; elements of hard rock and pop punk are meshed together in the track, creating a unique blend that hints at influences of 90's alternative. The remaining EP tracks continue on a sentimental path, telling a full story centralized around the theme of toxicity. About the EP, the band states: We wanted Fade to tell a story. We released Two Thirds in the fall to warm people up to our new sound and line up, but we wanted to take some time after that to really develop a concept behind our next release. in Mid december we finished writing the other 3 songs for the EP, Goodbye, Sinking, and Lucid, and felt like we had really accomplished our goal. Fade tells the story of becoming aware of your own self destructive and toxic traits and fighting to take back control of your life. A five piece alternative rock band from upstate New York, Brookline features Mikey Pace (guitar), Dae Bennett (guitar), Matt Spinner (bass), Chris Fox (drums), and Tommy Carter (vocals). Formed in 2018, the group has mixed influence from pop punk and emo to post-hardcore and 90’s alternative rock. In late 2018, they announced the upcoming release of their second EP "Fade," recorded with Jake Mannix of Indigo Audio Co. "Fade" shows a large amount of growth in musicianship as well as lyrical content from the groups earlier work. Touching on personal experiences of heartbreak, and the struggles of drug/alcohol abuse, "Fade" uses a combination of explosive hard rock, melodic emo, and alternative influence to express these themes to their listeners. A sweet proclamation of affection, "Puppy Love" is an energetic combination of power pop and pop punk influences. Produced by Chris Curran at Reclaim Studios, the single successfully blends together soft, expressive verses and a powerhouse, explosive chorus to create an early 2000s, nostalgic sound, as well as a sweet Valentine's Day surprise. About the single, lead vocalist Allison states: “I wrote Puppy Love about the feeling of falling in love with someone and being too darn nervous to say it! My now-girlfriend actually asked me, ‘do you think dogs fall in love’ on my birthday a couple of months into dating while we were driving home. So, I took that spark and expanded the idea. I like this song because it feels exciting with highs and lows. The music mirrors the emotion.” Allison & Moon is a Boston-based power-pop-punk-emo band comprised of Allison Griggs (guitar/vocals), Mike Hayden (bass), and Courtney Peterson (drums). The band bloomed from the seeds of Allison's acoustic singer-songwriter solo project after she released her first full-band EP, The Sea independently, collaborating with Westfall Recording. About forming the band, Allison says, "I loved writing, playing, and singing...I was just missing the communal and social aspect of music, and I wanted to rock out. I've wanted to be in a band as long as I can remember, so I decided I would do it myself and the right people would join along the way. That's when I found Mike and Courtney!" After recording The Sea, Mike and Courtney joined and the band started playing gigs around Boston including O'Brien's Pub and the Hard Rock Cafe. They released an acoustic EP shortly after, entitled How About You? Allison & Moon's music is reminiscent of turn-of-the-century sounds and references bands like Paramore, Daughter, Tegan and Sara, and ABBA as influences. As a queer artist, Allison recognizes the importance of representation in music, and the band is excited to promote diversity, inclusivity, and to foster a community in music. The EP serves as one out of three to be released throughout 2019, ultimately leading up to the reveal of their new LP, "Wonder/Wander," due out later in the year. The three EPs, which they have coined 'Phases', are the result of three plus years in the studio, creating a body of work that represents the band's current synergy. Phase I's tracks create a diverse collection, while also maintaining what built Here's To You nearly ten years ago. Their first music released since 2015, Here's To You have given their groovy indie rock sound a refreshing update and expanding their craft. Their signature sound is still present - the lead single "Burning Alive" is built around HTY's meticulous guitar work, crisp vocals, and quality tones - but in 2019, their musicianship has matured. It's impossible to not be curious about Here's To You's future releases; they are back, they are here, and the band is ready to unravel what they've been keeping a secret. About "Wonder/Wander: Phase I", the band states: “Coming back after taking 3 years to write a record isn’t easy for anyone. But the 4 of us have such synergy when writing with each other, and this crazy ability to understand each others ideas and improve upon them without much communication. If it wasn’t for that, I’m not sure if HTY would still be making music. With the change in sound from our last record to this - we’ve let ourselves be exposed to so much more life and really tried to just do what we think was best for the release of “Burning Alive”. We spent so much more time on lyrics than ever before, really trying to paint images in the best way we could. We sincerely hope it shows.” After playing together for almost a decade now, NY-based, indie pop/rock outfit Here’s To You are finally making a return with their sophomore LP, Wonder/Wander. Formed back in 2009 while still in high school, Charlie Giovanniello (Lead Vocals, Guitar), Stephan Stanzione (Drums, Vocals) and Greg Almeida (Guitar, Vocals) self-released their debut album Love Me Or Leave Me, inspired by their high school experiences. After playing hundreds of shows across the eastern seaboard, playing The Bamboozle Festival, South By Southwest Festival, and multiple shows with Atlantic Records artist Cash Cash, the group managed to garner a tight following. In 2016, the missing piece of HTY, Mike Fenimore (Bass, Vocals), was found to finally complete the group’s lineup. After spending the past three years writing, recording, rehearsing, and honing in on a fresh, updated sound, the band has used their experiences of growing up and falling in and out of love in the modern-digital age as the main set piece for Wonder/Wander. Every single rhythm, chord, and melody on Wonder/Wander has been carefully crafted, recorded, altered, and subsequently re-recorded, until each member of the band was satisfied with the final product. It’s the band’s attention to detail and meticulous songwriting on Wonder/Wander that will be sure to excite fans both old and new. "Wonder/Wander: Phase I" is out NOW. After an extensive about of self-discovery and reflection, lead vocalist Sam Haas brings the project to life through a reflective set of lyrics in "Behind Those Eyes." HAAS approaches the broad pop/rock genre with ease; "Behind Those Eyes" showcases pulsing, rhythmic guitars and powerful lead vocals. The single paves the way for HAAS' five-track debut EP, due out later this year. The music video, which serves as an open letter of sorts to Sam's sister, kicks off with an emotional discussion between the pair, setting the tone for a moving, yet powerful, visual. About the track, lead vocalist Sam Haas states: “Behind Those Eyes” is the debut single off HAAS’ upcoming EP. This song is about the dynamics of my relationship with my sister, at a particular point in time, and how an outside influence was changing my perception of her. The song shows the emotional roller coaster that was a year of my life. It shows how an outside influence can have so much influence over someone. This is a song about my efforts to “save” her, but at some point, you have to stop trying and move on. Though this song is immensely personal, I believe that it can be applied to any type of relationship. HAAS is a pop/rock band from Virginia. The name HAAS stems from lead vocalist Sam Haas who decided to pay tribute to not only her family name but her late grandfather who inspired her through his music. After years of playing around with names and ideas, HAAS became the official name in 2018. Through the use of catchy melodies, rhythmic guitars, and expressive lyrics, HAAS has been able to marry the pop/rock sound. The group uses music not only as an outlet for themselves, but want the music to be an outlet for others. They draw on personal hardships, such as loss, strained relationships, bullying, depression, and anxiety, but also hardships within the world today. HAAS strives to promote a place of safety and inclusivity, where it is okay to be who you are and forget about the real world for a minute. HAAS has discussed being bullied and scared of being who they are and by embracing themselves, they hope to inspire others to do the same; “love who you are and don’t be afraid to do the things you want.” HAAS plans to release their debut five-song EP in the Spring. Allison: It all stemmed from a question my girlfriend asked me on my birthday last year - “Do you think dogs can fall in love?” I was falling for her at the time, and we were both too nervous to say it. So, I connected the emotions I was feeling with the idea of puppy love as a concept, and I made a story out of it! Will “Puppy Love” be included on a larger body of work in the future? Allison: Definitely! We are working on a 5-song EP as we speak. How would you define Allison & Moon in just three words? Allison: Emo yet optimistic. Do you think “Puppy Love” is the best representation of the band’s sound? Allison: For sure. This is the first song we are releasing that all of us participated in writing. Whereas before, it was just me and some studio musicians. Though I wrote the core of the song, Mike and Courtney added their style and sound, and this feels genuinely like us. What is next for Allison & Moon? Allison: We are going on tour to support this release! It will be our first one, and we are super excited. After that, we’re back in the studio to finish the EP, and we’ll be releasing a music video shortly after. Mike: This is my first official release with the band, and I couldn’t be more excited to put all of our hard work out for the world to hear! Stephan: Honestly, it’s been so exciting and invigorating. In the few days leading up to the release, I was so insanely giddy, it was insane! Charlie: It’s so exciting! We worked so hard on all of this music and so far the feedback has been incredible. Greg: Kind of weird cause people thought we were dead, I kept telling them we’re working on stuff, haha. Why was “Burning Alive” chosen as the first single to release off of your upcoming LP? Stephan: Not only was it the first song completed for this LP, but to us, it was the perfect way to show the world that HTY was back, but way different this time around. It’s the perfect pop/rock/indie BOP. Charlie: I think Burning Alive encompases all the elements that comprise our “new sound”. We have songs that are more electronic, more rock, more indie, but this was like the perfect balance. Plus, Ii think it lead the direction for the rest of the album since it was the first one that we wrote for the upcoming LP. Mike: Since this is the first song that we had completed for Wonder/Wander, it not only serves as a great lead single, but it also served as a great checkpoint for us as we wrote a lot of the songs on the album. We circled back to Burning Alive along the way to make sure we were still keeping with a consistent sound that started with this song. What made you guys decide to split the album into ‘phases’? Stephan: We’ve been saying this a lot, but it still holds true: People just don’t listen to albums the same way they used to. A collection of all of humanity’s music is almost all entirely available at our fingertips these days. Because of this, we opted to give people steady doses of the new album instead of dropping too much at once, which could easily get lost. We hope that this method will lead to more appreciation of some individual songs that some could normally miss out on, if that makes any sense. We want to keep people interested and wanting more. Charlie: Pretty much exactly what Stephan said. It helps to keep momentum going as we continually have something being released throughout the year. And it makes the whole album a lot more easily digestible to our listeners! Mike: We recorded (and are still finishing up) the album in phases, which allowed us to be really intentional with each song and pay a greater attention to detail as we went along the writing and recording process. We hope that releasing the album in phases like this will help our listeners to catch a lot of the details, rather than missing details because there’s just so much music to absorb in one shot. How has Here’s To You changed since your last release in 2015? Stephan: In just about every way you can say we’ve changed. We’ve matured, we’ve gone through college, we’ve gotten better at our instruments, honed in on our craft - the list just goes on and on. You’ll find that our songs sound very different when written in our mid-20’s compared to the first LP, which we wrote as teenagers haha. Mike: I joined the band shortly after the last release, so that's one change for sure haha. But since day 1 of being in the band, we’ve definitely grown up as songwriters. We’ve been through some big life changes together and that’s played a huge role in the songwriting for Wonder/Wander. Charlie: We’ve all improved as musicians / writers, and i think we all have a better understanding of the world and how things work now that we’re no longer in college. That maturity aspect comes through in Wonder / Wander, and I think that will continue to shine as we grow and continue writing. Greg: Yeah the change in maturity and just us growing up, you can hear it clear as day through the music. What does 2019 look like for the band, besides the release of your LP? Greg: Some shows! Stephan: The LP release will be taking up most of the year for us as we roll it out, along with more video content. On top of this, we just really hope to finally get out and start playing again - it’s been far too long since our last show! Charlie: We plan on continuing to make music videos, and maybe some live session videos for YouTube and Facebook. We’re all super eager to step on stage as well which we’ll probably be sometime in the Spring or Summer! Mike: Like the rest of the guys, I’m dying to get on the stage and play some crazy shows. We thought Sinking would be the best choice for the single because it was probably the most personal song we’ve ever written. It also embodies the general theme of this EP and the direction we’re moving as a band. Which EP track do you think represents Brookline’s sound as a whole? That’s a tough question. Lucid probably is the best representation of our musical style. Sinking is a close second though, for sure. The differences in the two songs show our wide range of influence across the band, and our writing could go either way at any time. Do you plan to release any other singles/music videos in this EP cycle? Sinking is coming out on February 1st, and then the full EP will be available for download on February 22nd. After that we will be releasing a music video for Sinking on March 5th. What was the recording process like for “Fade”? We started with demos recorded at practice and used them to program drums, then recorded guitars and bass over that. Next we did the live drums and finally, the vocals. It was a pretty smooth process; we’ve been working with Jake Mannix for a long time now in various projects so we all work together pretty well. Was it difficult to choose which tracks to put on the record? To be honest, not really. We had some of these songs written with minor differences before we changed our line up this past fall. Originally we were a four piece with a different singer and Dae playing bass. Once we got Tommy and Matt in the band, we tweaked the songs to better fit Tommy’s vocal style and let Dae add in his guitar parts. We felt these four songs as a whole were a good representation of the new sound and worked really well together as a small conceptual EP. Where can fans listen to your music and connect with you? Released with a simultaneous music video, "Hurt Me Harder" maintains a bouncy pop beat, paired with introspective lyrics and a colorful visual. The music video is perhaps the best representation of who Oceanlux is; the vibrant setting is the perfect contrast to the song's theme, a signature divergence in Oceanlux's music. Their familiar elements of modern electronic music are still present, but "Hurt Me Harder"'s blood runs just a bit deeper, showing an impressive amount of maturity in the duo's songwriting. About their new music, Oceanlux states: “As a band we try to appeal to the listener with our interpretation of pop music. Danceable, catchy and fun while trying to bring more substance on a lyrical level. We aren’t trying to show off and be great musicians. We are trying to be great song writers.” Midwestern natives Oceanlux, are an Indie Pop duo formed in Indiana by vocalist Daisy Draper and multi-instrumentalist Brandon Weaver. The second single off of their upcoming EP "Fade" (out 2/22), "Sinking" sings an emotional narrative, touching upon themes of heartbreak and addiction. Elements of hard rock and pop punk are meshed together in the track, creating a unique blend that hints at influences of 90's alternative. With an upcoming music video planned for "Sinking," Brookline is also gearing up for the release of "Fade," which will take new listeners on an emotional ride. About the single, the band states: “Sinking” is the 2nd single off of Brookline’s Fade EP and tells the story of a relationship torn apart by addiction. The chorus hook “like a ship at sea you’re sinking, and I can’t be your lighthouse beacon” embodies the theme of the song; that although this person clearly needs help, their partner can no longer handle being subjected to their self destructive behavior and has to leave for their own good. A five piece alternative rock band from upstate New York, Brookline features Mikey Pace (guitar), Dave Bennet (guitar), Matt Spinner (bass), Chris Fox (drums), and Tommy Carter (vocals).
