CINCINNATI, OH | AUGUST 28th, 2020 - Pop punk quintet Big Smile have released a music video for their new single "Killdozer," out NOW. The band's first release via their new label Anchor Eighty Four Records, "Killdozer" is an ambitious vocal performance with biting lyrics concerning the pharmaceutical industry, delving into the complexities of addiction. Intertwined with dynamic instrumentation, the track takes listeners on a stirring ride, ranging from bouncy and energetic to driving and emotional. The music video closely coincides with the single's lyricism, sharing disturbing facts and statistics about Big Pharma. A true contender in pop punk, Big Smile are poised to take the throne. After releasing two songs in late 2017, Big Smile hit the ground running in 2018 with the release of their first EP 'When I Left Home,’ produced by Seth Henderson (Real Friends, Knuckle Puck, Sleep On It), which quickly gained recognition around the local Cincinnati/Dayton music scene. Shortly after a string of shows, including some with local heavyweights like Settle Your Scores, You vs. Yesterday, and Mascots, the band embarked on their first small tour which included shows with Abandoned By Bears and Youth Fountain. The Pop-Punk quintet returned to Always Be Genius Studios in late 2018 in preparation for their 2019 release 'Dependent,' which quickly gathered 100k streams on Spotify behind lead single, ‘Pillbox Hill.’ The single landed on multiple Spotify playlists such as Pop Punk's Not Dead and The Scene and opened the door for the band to tour as well as open for national acts such as State Champs, The Dangerous Summer, and Grayscale. After their late 2019 release of their video for the song 'Oscillate', which premiered on Live Nation's 'The Noise', Big Smile hit the road one last time before returning to ABG to record another batch of tunes set for release throughout 2020. LONG ISLAND, NY | AUGUST 28TH, 2020 - Progressive metal artist Eric Francis has released his new LP "Under A Fake Sky," available on all digital platforms NOW. Creating a deliberate sense of “musical whiplash” in his sound, Eric Francis uses a contrast between light and heavy elements in his writing. “Under A Fake Sky” was conceived during the COVID-19 pandemic from March - July, and was created entirely by Francis in his home while in quarantine. Lyrically, the LP tells the story of his personal experiences during quarantine, and how he was handling isolation, current events, and the COVID-19 pandemic. About the LP, Eric states: “The album ends on a cliffhanger. While creating this album has provided me with much needed comfort and distraction, nothing has changed. The pandemic is ongoing with no way out in sight. Many people, myself included, are still lost at sea when it comes to careers and incomes. The current state of the world is bleak, and I felt that there was no other appropriate ending. Depending on what the future holds, I may continue the story in a follow-up album.” Progressive metal artist Eric Francis is always trying something different. Experimenting with elements of many rock and metal sub-genres, his discography is a sonic melting pot always open for expansion. Self-described as creating a sense of ‘musical whiplash,’ Francis’ music is characterized by complicated rhythm guitar parts and “airy”, ambient leads, using a contrast between light and heavy elements in his writing. Prior to releasing music as a solo artist, Francis collaborated with many bands local to his home on Long Island. His new LP, ‘Under A Fake Sky,” (released August 28th) was created during the COVID-19 pandemic by Francis himself. Although the record was unplanned, Eric found himself inspired by the confines of quarantine to produce, write, record, mix, and master an album from his home. Lyrically, the LP tells the story of his personal experiences with quarantine, isolation, current events, and the COVID-19 pandemic. “Under A Fake Sky” is a mesh of progressive metal and djent sounds that blend together seamlessly. Released just ahead of their upcoming LP "Minutia," the single is a beautiful taste of what's to come. Soothing and serene, "Sunday" highlights AFTYN at their absolute best. About the single, the duo states: “Sunday” is a song that we brought back from our EP because we thought that it had more potential than what we released before. The song has been re-recorded with a full production and is one of our most upbeat songs. The lyrics are about being apart from a significant other over a long period of time. A simplistic indie/folk duo, AFTYN are hellbent on keeping it personal. Comprised of members Guinnevere Philipp and Chris Maher, AFTYN aims to evoke an updated 70’s folk sound, blended with both classic and alternative influences. Soothing melodies and raw instrumentation are the core of the duo, who self describe themselves as ‘modern hippies’. Their approach to live shows is uniquely down to earth, keeping their setup stripped back so they can engage with the crowd. AFTYN heavily utilizes social platforms such as Instagram to showcase their artistry, regularly posting a variety of short covers from various decades and transforming them into their relaxed, folk-driven sound. The duo is preparing to release their upcoming self-produced debut LP “Minutia” later this summer, and AFTYN are ready to introduce themselves. Released alongside an incredibly personal music video, "Sunbeam" brings the issue of domestic abuse to light. Falling outside the scope of the typical metal band, CENSUS presents a powerful pop vocal style that meshes perfectly with their heavy rock instrumentation. CENSUS has opened up for a wide range of national touring acts, including Beartooth, Like Moths to Flames, and Kublai Khan, among others. Pairing modern metalcore and 80’s-esque guitar riffs with emotionally driven lyrics, CENSUS aim to continually evolve their platform with “Sunbeam”. Heart wrenching and unsettling at points, "Sunbeam" brings listeners on an emotionally sonic and visual ride. About the single, the band states: “Sunbeam” is about a girl who deals with sexual abuse and battles depression and mental manipulation from her current partner. Ben wrote this song for a friend of his (who would like to be anonymous) after hearing about how she went through some of the same experiences. We decided to make sexual abuse the main topic of the music video because, especially in 2020, it is becoming increasingly more clear how common sexual assault is, and we wanted to use this song and story to bring awareness to that. It’s a hard thing for people to talk about, and honestly, it’s a hard music video to watch at parts, but it’s a real issue and it’s important to acknowledge it, rather than pretend it doesn’t exist." Census is a modern progressive rock band that originated in Jessieville, Arkansas. Current members include Ben Carey (vocals), Bo Sawyer (guitar), Jathan Neider (bass), and Josh Coleman (drums). The band's heavy metalcore roots can be observed in their releases “Placebo" (January 2018), "Enigma” (2016) and a seven-track EP titled Peaceseeker (2016). The addition of the track "I Can Feel Eternity" (December 2018), featuring Ben Carey for the first time as lead vocals, marked the band’s noticeable shift in genre. In the spring of 2017, the band was chosen to play So What?! Music Fest through a contest held by festival founder Mike Ziemer. Census is constantly working to evolve and mature their sound by writing music with purpose and providing others with a platform to be involved. Led by the lead single "Baby," "Minutia" is a simplistic and intimate 10-track collection. A testament to members' Guinnevere Philipp and Chris Maher's musical connection, "Minutia" is incredibly soothing, reaching into personal experiences and nostalgia. About the single, the duo states: We are so excited to release what we have worked on over the last year to the world! All these songs were written and produced by us with no other hands involved which we felt kept our identities intact in the music. We have varying influences in music from the 70’s to now, so these elements played a heavy hand in our songs. A simplistic indie/folk duo, AFTYN are hellbent on keeping it personal.
