You have a new single about to drop called “Ascian”. How was this writing process different from other tracks the band has written? -It was different in the sense that we had more input. The song was put together a couple years prior to the LP, “A Human Curse,” which came out back in 2017. Since then I (Y’shua) have been finishing it. After gathering more members we finally had a unique song; it was our first real writing process together as a new team, so that made it different in itself. What has your experience been like gearing up to release new music during a pandemic? Is anything different than before this crisis? -It’s been a unique experience. We’ve all been separated and are creating online content for our fans, so we can stay active during this time. We wanted to put out Ascian as soon as possible to give our fans something to listen to while we plan our next steps. Aside from releasing music, has the band experienced any setbacks from COVID-19? -Our release date for our new EP and a lot of plans such as music videos and touring have been put on hold during this time until we gauge how the crisis affects the music industry. It’s saddening to us that we can’t drop it all now and hit the road, but we are taking precautions and practicing social distancing until we decide it’s time to play out again. How would you describe “Ascian” to someone who is not familiar with Letters To Part, without settling on a specific genre? -Ascian encompasses elements of alternative and post-rock by invoking heavier guitars that are high energy in the intro, and outro where the verses are more clean and ambient. The chorus is very open with lead guitar and vocals intertwining. The bridge features a groovy bass part and the drums vary often while keeping the beat of the song. Will this single be part of a larger body of work, or serve as a stand alone single? -Yes, “Ascian” is track #2 off our upcoming EP “Mad’ouk.” Our last single “Imperious” is also the first track off that same record and we re-recorded it to match the feel of the new album. Do you think “Ascian” is a solid representation of who Letters To Part is right now? -Definitely! Ascian is a great intro to our new sound and represents our new EP very well by being more of a high energy song while showcasing technicality in the lead guitar. It has a lot of nostalgic vibes that take the listener back to a sound they love while incorporating our own modern take on progressive rock. Ascian is a song you want to bob your head to; we’ve been playing it live for over a year and our fans go crazy for it.
