For fans of The Queens of the Stone Age we have the rock band Wolf Jaw’s upcoming album The Heart Won’t Listen up for review.
Hailing from the UK, Wolf Jaw offers a rock and roll LP with a blend of heavy and soul. Formerly known as The Bad Flowers, the band dropped a new single in the begging 2019, “I Lose My Mind”, which is featured on The Heart Won’t Listen. The track is loud and gritty, with growling vocals, angry lyrics and a grinding rhythm section to drive it home. Though it lands somewhere towards the end of the album, they were right to release it ahead of the rest of the effort. It is a perfect introduction to the madness that Wolf Jaw is about to throw you into.
There’s no such thing as ‘slowing it down’ with The Heart Won’t Listen, it keeps raging from start to end. From the opening track “Hear Me”, which was released this summer, to it’s closer “Beast” this album is packed with hard-hitting beats and electrifying guitar riffs. The lyrics, dark and full of angst, are expelled by singer Tom Leighton with force and passion. His vocals are perfect for the grungy, throwback inspired vibe that is Wolf Jaw’s new sound. The emotion he puts forth is the force that really makes the tracks as compelling as they are.
I don’t want to give the idea that the album has no depth just because it is high energy. Each song has its own element that sets it apart from the one before it, keeping you entertained and engaged. The Heart Won’t Listen is a melting pot of the band’s influences, and you can hear bits and pieces of the different genres that inspired this collection of work all through out. It’s a solid middle ground for any rock listener, which I think will give the album great success. I promise you, you’ll be completely sucked in by the end of the first song and I can almost guarantee that by the time the last note rings out you’ll be ready to play it again!

The Heart Won't Listen is out November 8th via Listenable Records!
