You remember that band that you formed back in high school? You know, the one that started in your basement where practices involved you all jamming so loud that your mom came downstairs to yell at you to keep it down? After each song everyone would agree that it sounded really good that time and that you were getting better and better? There was probably a girlfriend or two sitting on the old sofa not paying attention until the music stopped and then they’d offer an overzealous round of applause and you could just feel it in your gut, you were going to make it big someday? Yeah? That pretty much sums up the vibe I get from this demo, but I say that in the best way possible! It’s just a bunch of dudes enjoying themselves playing their music. With a possibly unintentional nineties garage band vibe, the first three tracks have easy to follow lyrics and catchy beats. By the second time of listening through you’ll be singing along and most likely wake up with the chanting chorus of “La La La” stuck in your head for weeks. The demo finishes off with a bit of a change in tone as the darker intro of “Winter Sunlight” eases you into the solemn fourth track. Though a good first release, it only makes me want to hear the live rendition of these songs as to get the full effect that is evidently not captured. That being said, I give the Thin Ice demo a thumbs up!
