Why was “Trap Song” chosen as a single?
Trap Song is the home crowd favorite. Something about it just gets people fired up and ready to go ham. I even saw a baby dancing to it once.
How does this song differ from any others you’ve released?
The song is really about hard hitting bass and lots of space in the upper register. A lot of the songs we write are based on what people have described as jazzy chord progressions, but this one just lives in the nitty gritty of that constant rumbling bass note. There’s also a lot more headroom. Lots of space between the bass and the guitar and keyboard. And the trap-style hi-hats add a different element for us too.
What’s coming up in 2019 for the band?
We’re taking the early part of the year to get some more standalone singles recorded and prepare for recording our next big release. We’ve got a lot of new material we’re really excited to get recorded and show the world. We’re definitely not slowing down, 2019 will be a busy year.
The music video for this track is quite energetic. Would you say it’s a good representation of the band as a whole?
Look, we’re silly as hell. We’re always trying to make each other laugh by doing something stupid, and that’s exactly what the video for Trap Song is. We put a lot of energy into getting our audience to have as good of a time as we are, so that’s basically what we try to get across. It’s like, hey, we’re just gonna have a blast with this, so come join the party. Guys just wanna have fun.
Do you plan to tour at all in the coming months?
We’d love to play as many places as possible. I think a lot of our travel plans for 2019 are going to include a lot of festival shows, and we’re gonna be focusing heavily on new material. But we’re definitely hoping to play as many different places as possible!
