Shannon Rae: When setting out to put together your debut album Origin, what was the mindset? How did you want to represent the band?

Juuso Turkki: The album came up heavy and atmospheric just like I planned. I remade synths a few times to this album and the final result were satisfying since I wanted to represent the band as  an epic melodic death metal band with heavy and tight playing.

SF: I noticed some melodic keyboard playing mixed in, acting as a sort of opposing force to the harsher metal beats, what inspired you add this element?

JT: I've always loved atmospheric synths and space-inspired sounds. They add the depth and epicness we need in our music!

SF: There is a real sense of craftsmanship, what is everyone's musical backgrounds? Where does all of the talent originate from?

JT: We all started playing our instruments since we were little kids. So basically we all have more than 10 years experience of playing, making music and playing in a band. We have been working pretty hard to get in this point.

SF: Daniel Freyberg from the band Children of Bodom makes a guest appearance, how did that come to play?

JT: Daniel is a good friend of mine and I really enjoy his playing and solos. So basically I just asked him if he wants to do a quest solo on this album and he did.

SF: The overall worldwide feedback has been great! Did you expect this positivity or only hoped that it would be so well accepted? Have you received any comments in particular that have surprised you?

JT: Of course I hoped that people would like our music and it was amazing to notice that people have been really enjoyed the album so far! We received one funny negative comment about our song "Eye For an Eye": "This song is more annoying than an alarm clock in the morning!!". We still love all the feedback that comes nevertheless!

SF: Your bassist Markku recently had surgery? What happened and how is he recovering?

JT: He's still waiting info about his upcoming surgery. Let's hope that he will recover fast from it.

SF: What are the touring plans? Has Markku’s surgery postponed any dates?

JT: Yeah, we had to abandon a few shows because of the bad news. Gladly new shows have been already booked for the future so we will touring pretty soon again!

SF: It took four years for the release of Origin, will we have to wait that long again for the next effort from you guys?

JT:We are already writing new songs for the next album so I think the next HYPO-album is out within 2 years.

SF: Thank you for chatting with us!

JT: Thanks for the interview!
